Tom Barker Artefacts

Tom lives on Yuwaalaraay country in Lightning Ridge and follows passionately in his father’s footsteps, as a craftsman, making artefacts, weapons and traditional tools. Tom sources the timber locally and uses Gidgee, Mulga and Beefwood from country.

Gidgee is more expensive given it is the third hardest wood in the world and rare Australian hardwood. Gidgee is well known for its unique colour, hardness, rareness and silhouettes. 

Mulga

Mulga is a hardwood often found with a highly figured grain pattern. The colour of mulga varies from yellows to dark and medium browns.

Beefwood is an Australian native timber that is durable and is known for its medium to dark red colouring.
